The 1 oz. Proof U.S. Gold and Silver Eagles are minted using special dies. A 22-karat gold or .999 silver coin blank is fed by hand into the coin press. The U.S. Proof Gold or Silver is struck multiple times in the press which creates a “mirror-like” finish, and images have a frosted quality.

Each 1 oz. U.S. Proof Gold and Silver Eagle comes in a beautiful, dark blue velvet case with all the paperwork from the U.S. Mint including the Certificate of Authenticity. This certificate verifies the U.S. government guarantee of the gold or silver content, weight and purity.

The U.S. Mint copied the design for the obverse of the Gold Eagle from the $20 Saint-Gaudens, which is widely considered America’s most beautiful coin. The Proof Silver is the Walking Liberty design. The $20 Saint-Gaudens coin was commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt with a goal of producing U.S. gold as beautiful as the ancient gold coins of Greece and Rome.
